Springfield M-1816 Flint Musket Conversion to Percussion and Presented, with military decorations and embellishments. The presentation is on the top of the barrel but illegible. It has a type III Military Conversion, the lock is dated 1830 along with barrel. The guns shows honest handling marks, but never sanded or buffed. Dark chocolate patina. Functional. These guns were used in the Mexican-American War of the late 1840\'s, and certainly the presentation went to an officer of that era. I will try to enhance the inscription with my camera to see if the name can be made out. Jefferson Davis, and many other officers who became prominent figures in the Confederacy got their start in the Mexican-American War. Very good overall. Smooth bore in about .69 caliber
